Oversize/Overweight Load Flags/Banners/Signs/Lights Requirements for Alaska

  • Require “oversize” or “oversize load” signs.
  • Must have an amber, high-intensity rotating, flashing, oscillating, or strobe beacon visible for 500 feet.
  • Options: Extended light bar, a rear pilot car, or an escort vehicle.


  • All flags must be a minimum of 16” square.
  • Flags are required on vehicles with widths exceeding 10 feet.
  • Flags are necessary if overhang exceeds legal limits in any direction.

Travel Time Restrictions for Overdimensional and Overweight Loads in Alabama

  • Oversize loads are limited to daylight hours.
  • Loads with lengths ranging from 120 to 150 feet are restricted from 9 am to 3 pm on Mondays through Fridays, from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset.
  • Travel is permitted throughout the day on Saturdays, but not on Sundays.
  • Shipments with lengths between 120 and 150 feet cannot move from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays.
  • No travel is allowed on specified holidays, and the Alabama DOT state permit office is closed on these days:
